If you're new to Tampa North, you might think summer is all palm trees and sunshine.
You're not wrong… but also… you're not prepared. ?
Here are the 7 stages of surviving a Florida summer, according to every local who's been through it more than once:
Stage 1: Denial
"It's only May. It can't be that hot yet."
Then you step outside and immediately question your life choices.
Stage 2: Acceptance (and hydration)
You start carrying water bottles everywhere like you're training for a marathon.
Walking from Publix to your car? Hydrate.
Checking the mail? Hydrate.
Blinking? Hydrate.
Stage 3: The Great Sunscreen Debate
Spray? Lotion? SPF 50? SPF 100?
Whatever you pick, you still end up with that one rogue sunburn stripe.
Stage 4: The Shower Dilemma
You take a shower to cool off → walk outside → immediately feel like you need another shower.
Repeat until November.
Stage 5: Storm Roulette
Will it rain? Won't it rain?
Will your pool floaties blow away?
Will the sky turn black at 2 PM just because?
Florida weather is dramatic and unbothered.
Stage 6: "Is That a Mosquito or a Helicopter?"
We don't get normal mosquitoes.
We get mosquitoes that could register with the FAA.
Stage 7: Pure Florida Pride
Despite all of it, we love our summers — the sunsets, the evenings at the lagoon, the weekend trips to the springs.
Because honestly? There's nothing like summer in Tampa North.
Florida summers aren't for the weak… but that's what makes living here so fun. ?
